The Poultry Biosecurity Review (PBR) grant will support veterinary surgeon led review and advice to improve biosecurity on eligible poultry farmers. The aim of the scheme is to use improved biosecurity measures to reduce the incidence of disease on poultry farms, including avian influenza, improving animal health and welfare and productivity.

Summary

This grant will support veterinary surgeon led review and advice to improve biosecurity on eligible poultry farms. The aim of the scheme is to use improved biosecurity measures to reduce the incidence of disease on poultry farms, including avian influenza, improving animal health and welfare and productivity.

The deadline to apply is 30 September 2028.

Reviews must be completed by 31 December 2028.

Claims must be submitted by 31 March 2029.

Eligibility

You can apply if your business is based and registered in England and you’re a poultry keeper with the minimum number of birds of at least one of the following species:

· 1000 egg-laying hens

· 1000 breeding chickens

· 1000 meat chickens

· 500 geese

· 500 ducks

· 500 turkeys

Species numbers can’t be combined eg 200 ducks and 300 turkeys.

To apply you need to register or be registered in the Rural Payments Service and have a Customer Reference number (CRN) and a Single Business Identifier (SBI).

You must also register or be registered with APHA as a keeper of more than 50 poultry on the Kept Birds Register.

You must have a PBR grant agreement in place before getting your vet to undertake a biosecurity review of your poultry site.

You can have a biosecurity review at each eligible poultry site in your control every 10 months.

Objectives

The aim of this grant is to use improved biosecurity measures to reduce the incidence of disease on eligible poultry farms, including Avian Influenza. Improving biosecurity will help improve animal health and welfare and productivity of the birds on the site.

Dates

· The service opens for applications 2 June 2026.

· Deadline for applications is 30 September 2028.

· Claim submission deadline is 31 March 2029.
